What is true now was true then. Being in bottom 20% (according to this study), meant a 56% drop in marital success (80/20 rule). I'd argue that the drop and bottom percentage threshold is even larger today.

What I take from this is that the 80/20 rule has always been a thing. Nowadays it's probably closer to 90/10.
