Yet when Wolverine, another fictional character is made to be much taller than he actually is, there is no pushback. 

Ironically, X-Men (1963) has been around for about the same amount of time as the James Bond (1962) franchise.

Glad you brought up the Wolverine thing. It's funny how most people (it seems) are able to justify why a taller person can play a short character, but not the other way around.
