becoming a teacher?

i want to be come a history teacher and want to teach world history at the high school level (i love the subject). I was discouraged by an admissions person because she said I was really small and should reconsider. any short men here teachers? what problems have you run into becuase of your height?

I don't see why your height would stop you from becoming what you want to be in life. I don't know your height but I would probably guess that being short may have some impact if teaching HS.

I used to teach. I was really, really popular and liked by my students too. However, you will definitely have to assert yourself. Teens will push you, especially if they think short=pushover. But, height doesn't have to impact your success as a teacher as long as you're actually good at it.

My science teacher in highschool was 5'7 with shoes on. And what was funny was, all the girls LOVED him. He had a swagger about him but he was also nice and approachable. I know when my older sister had him in 11th grade, her and all her friends would drool over him, keep in mind, she was 5'5'. Not exactly short for a woman.

My niece had a history teacher in 9th grade and this was the case with him. All the girls loved him and found him very attractive. He was only 5'7 tops as well. I met him once and he carried himself in a way that you would believe he had no self esteem issues.
