Why do men over 5'8 complain?

Men who are at least 5'8 are rarely the butt of short jokes and do get taken more seriously in the workplace. Aside from the infrequent "relative" short joke (more like haha, you're not 6 ft as opposed to "you're not a real man" ) and the occasional woman who is like 5'10 not being interested, men 5'8 and up have it way easier than someone say below 5'6.

To those men, I say man the hell up!

23andMe DNA test to figure out why shortness is prevalent in my DNA?

23andMe is a mail-in DNA test. You basically can swab your cheek and send it in for reporting. I already know my immediate background, but am wondering if some unknown connection can explain why shortness runs in my family.

I am content with being short, but am just curious to know if certain populations running thick in my DNA can explain it better.

Any of you ever do a DNA test and what are your backgrounds?

Which country have you felt tallest in and what was it like?

I just came back from a trip to Colombia and never felt closer to average height. Just about every man I came across in Bogota and Baranquilla weren't that much taller than me. Mind you, Bogota is the capital, a major city. Last year I was in Germany and it was obviously the complete opposite.

Which countries or cities have you been to where you felt the tallest or shortest?

Average Height In China By Region (2018)

As expected, taller people are in the cities, but their average height isn't "catching up" to people with Northern European ancestry.

They will hate you if you're a successful short stunner

So as you know, I own two successful businesses and work a full time job. I am not married nor do I have kids. I currently have a really fly girlfriend and most of the women I've dated are considered by most to be well above average in attractiveness. I am not writing this post to brag, I'm doing this to discuss a phenomenon.

See, us short guys are "supposed" to be at the bottom of the barrel. I've noticed that women who aren't considered very attractive, play up their standards to only include very attractive men, above average in all areas. I am okay with this, but not so much with these women's incessant needs to put down men who don't "meet" their standards. I don't get mad, I just shrug it off and laugh. I'll tell you why

I work with a woman who is overweight, wears hair extensions and a lot of makeup. She is not particularly attractive and has a very nasty and sometime-ish attitude. We got along okay, until she saw me with my girlfriend. After that, it was nothing but non stop back-handed comments and remarks about my height. I would respond "but I am successful, my girlfriend is fly and I make great money, so who cares?".

Her remarks eventually turned into frustrating grunts and dirty looks. This was over a period over a few weeks. I'll tell you why...

It frustrates some people to no end to see a short successful confident man. It is like body armor. It will piss off your "haters". I know the word "hater" is overdone, but it will frustrate others who perceive you to be of lower status actually be higher on the totem pole than them of higher than they wish for you to be.

Keep on grinding fellow short guys! We're going to make it!

Why do so many child actors grow up to be shorter than average?

Danielle Radcliffe (Harry Potter), Tom Cruise, Edward Furlong (John Connor from Terminator 2), Macaulay Culkin (Home Alone), Lorenz Tate (21 Jump Street) and Nick Jonas are a few that come to mind. Any idea as to why that is, or am I just cherry picking?

How do you deal with people calling you or other short men "midget"?

Be it in casual conversation or being called it outright, I noticed that the offender diverts by saying "it was a joke" or "out of love" or some other way to clean up the insult. My question to you all is how do you react to the word's usage?

Why are so many people against Leg Lengthening?

But are okay with Breast Implants, Butt Implants, Botox, Plastic Surgery and other types of body enhancement. How is getting taller different from any of those surgeries? They all carry risks and are done for the sake of vanity, except lack of height has real life implications particularly for men. No one cares if a woman has an A cup, but people will ostracize a guy for being under 5'8.

Don't give up on love

I have known men who have not found love until their late 30s and early 40s. Don't give up, especially if you think your height is one of the principal barriers to dating. Just continue to get out there, join different social groups, professional groups and activities that are of interest to you where you will get to meet others.

Just also be sure to review a lot of the advice given on this forum and many of the articles. Bypass the used up women who are looking for someone to rescue them (love, financially, stepdad life) and be just as choosy as you experience women being when they passed you up.

Women are the ones who lack confidence when it comes to height not men

I was on break at work in our staff lounge and a co-worker of mine (woman) commented on this woman that I finally had the courage to ask out on a date. The woman was a regular customer at our store until she moved, so both my co worker and I know her.

When the customer came by the store to talk to me about our date, my co worker overheard and told me that it's great that I was able to get her to go out with me, but that I should be concerned because she is taller than me.

My question is, so what? It sounds like she can't stand to see someone happy?

Don't believe the hype, men in Hong Kong are not that tall

There is this idea that the men in Hong Kong are much taller than the men in mainland China (particularly those born before 1990) and are on par with men in the West.

I just came back from visiting Hong Kong for business and the men on average seem 2-3" shorter than men in the U.S. Certain things are even designed for the smaller people here. For example, handlebars on Busses and Subways hang much lower.

I recommend a visit for the culture and British connection!

I had Leg Lengthening surgery and went from 5'6 to 5'9. AMA

Hey everyone. I lengthened 6 cm (2 1/2 inches) and am now 5'9". I did my procedure at the Paley Institute in Florida with Precise 2. I will not reveal my personal information for obvious reasons but I will disclose some info.

I was fortunate enough to enter a high paying field in software engineering after leaving university with a Comp Sci degree. I was making $130K/yr at my former position. I was 26 when I had the surgery. I saved 50K and took out a loan to cover the rest. The only people I told were my parents and I had their blessing. I do not plan on telling anyone else. My friends think I got into a major car accident because I told them this when they saw me in crutches.

I am now a smidge under 5'9 and my life has changed completely for the better. I had the money, career, friends and was extroverted. I even had flings pre-surgery. But now, I have the respect from the first time I meet someone and most of the subtle social frustrations I experienced as a short man are now gone.

This girl is just weird

Hi guys,

A funny thing happened to me at work.

A 5'8 Persian girl at work seemed really cool to a bunch of us, who happen to be short guys She said her type of guy was one of my friends who is about 5'9 when we first started to get to know her. We all were initially like WOW what a nice person. She's not one of those tall girls who just want a tall guy. However one day when she was talking about the guy she wants to be with she listed these requirements:

1) Be 6 feet.

2) Blonde blue eyes like a German guy.

3) Pay for everything.

4) She is not religious but the man must convert to Islam so when she visits her parents back in Iran the police will not imprison and kill her. I am serious. She said if she marries a non-muslim she will be killed by the authorities upon landing.

I tried to explain to her that in Canada we do not have a lot of these 6 feet blonde, blue eyed men. She said she knows that and was disappointed. Geez thanks. When I told her to get a work permit for Sweeden or Germany she lit up and said she might just do that. When she left to go home all of us burst out laughing. Her list of requirements is not realistic in any way (she is 32 years old by the way!) and no way in hell is Sweden or Germany going to give out work permits easily, especially to an Iranian citizen.

It bothered me a lot to associate with a woman like this. My personal trainer told me to avoid such people. I am going to distance myself at work from her. Fortunately, I was happy to meet a 6'4 tall woman who would be happy to date a shorter man at a picnic this weekend. So my karma is getting better.

Let me know what you guys think. All these weird things happen to me so I have to share them with this group.
