Meh, I don't fault her for having a tall boyfriends, but I agree it is interesting when a woman says things that empowers "short people", she usually means herself. I bet short men aren't even on her radar.

I disagree with this wholeheartedly. Let me explain why.

What exactly would this accomplish?

This would turn people from talking about us to our faces to behind our backs.
Employers could still cite other reasons for why we weren't hired
It won't make us more attractive to women
Employers could use other methods to screen "only apply if you can lift...."
Shorter people with lesser skills may get ahead causing resentment

Where else would lines be drawn? Will there be height quotas in sports? This would give the government one more massive program to oversee. I am against big government.

What you can do instead of legislation:

Challenge people who insult you for your height
Push people to feel shitty for insinuating you are less able because of your height
Don't let women off the hook for height degrading comments
Challenge businesses who mock short men for profit
Challenge production companies who cast taller actors to play short men in biopics

Short men need to take a page from the Plus Size movement and add a stigma to body shaming. Attitudes would change.

Came across this article which pretty much sums up what those who are aware already know. While height in the Eurpoean low countries has been increasing over the last 50-100 years, height here in the U.S.A. has stagnated. No matter what crappy anecdotes your younger colleagues are telling you ("All of the guys in my freshmen classes are 6' on average), Americans now are the same height or in some cases shorter than 50 years ago and no, "immigration is not brining it down".

Interesting facts:

The U.S. ranks 40th for height and height has been in steady decline since the 50s. (Graph http://imgur.com/a/PCyMn)
Height worldwide stagnated since the 70s. (Graph http://imgur.com/a/DYMmU)
Researchers believe that the Dutch have reached the limits of human height
Immigrants are NOT bringing American height averages down. White Americans Males have stalled at 5'9.5 (CDC)
Canadians are taller than Americans
Americans were almost the tallest country in the world in 1900 (117 years ago FYI)
