Height and Children
Hello everyone, This my first post. I am lucky enough to have met a wonderful lady sometime ago and I now have two children (boy and a girl). As they will soon be starting school I went to meet other parents. I couldn't help but notice that not only was I the shortest guy (not very surprising) but for all the couples that were there, there was not one guy that was at least eye level with the woman. All the men were a few inches taller. Not one! For some reason I found this to very disconcerting. Anyway, I am secretly worried. I've not discussed this anyone. My kids will probably be taller than me when they start high school or have friends at my eye level. I am worried that they will be too embarrassed to be with me because I am very short. I am really scared. How to deal with this? Any ideas?

Proof of Body Shaming
I am not sure if anyone knows what "Whisper" is. It is basically an App that allows its users to confess things they normally wouldn't to people or on social networks. I came across this post on Buzzfeed and it honestly makes me feel ashamed to be me. So many dudes out there suffer because of something they can't control and even though I find dates, and I find girlfriends... It is always in the back of my mind that she "wants better". |

The feminist hypocrisy
They will talk all day about women and men are equal, but then will turn around and say how they "prefer" (require) that their men be tall, make as much or more money and be physically stronger (than them and other men). After reading that Jezebel article, I made this meme, because it is accurate. While we're at it, let's do a poll. Do you think Feminists truly care about erasing gender norms? |

Women set goals to have tall children now?
Read this comment and threw up a little... The question was "Do you want your kids to be tall?" Her response : I married a 6'7" (200cm) guy. My GOAL was to have tall children! As is, the boy will be about average height with his current height projections, while my daughters will be 70th-80th percentile. Oh well.

Can you name short actors who consistently played lead roles?
When I look at actors like Daniel Radcliffe or Macaulay Culkin, I think of failed artists in the sense that when all of the cuteness disappeared, there were no roles for them. I'm talking about actors of our generation. Tom Cruise, Al Pacino and Dustin Hoffman are from a different era where the average height for men was a tad lower. Tom Cruise played lead roles through most of his career, but he is borderline short. See Radcliffe, he played a lead role in a romantic comedy. It seems like that's all that's left for short adult actors, movies that play up dumb stereotypes of short guys being buffoons (Ben Stiller, David Spade, Martin, etc). |

Is feminism making heightism worse?
Me and a few friends were talking about this and I know the height crap has been around for sometime but it seems to have gotten a lot worse since the big feminism movement. Maybe it is just be but I feel like these types of women are so power hungry that they view men as objects and most want one that not only good looking and tall, but makes good money. They claim to be about empowering women but they preach on other women being free and careless with their bodies, "having sex like men" as they say, and being in power in every relationship they are in. |

It's always been rough being a short guy
If you think heightism is a recent phenomena, so some current "social justice movement", or just became a "thing" recently, then you're sadly mistaken. As we try to bring attention to it now and people are more vocal than ever about it, it's as old as time and something that every generation of short fellas have to deal with. Take a look at some of these little ditties from the past: People Magazine article from 1980 Time Magazine article from 1971 Jeffersons Season 6 Episode 2 - A Short Story Don't kid yourselves, heightism has been around forever. |

Petition to take down DirecTV's body shaming commercial
You all read my thread on the DirecTV petite randy moss and thankfully sgc did an article on it. Our fellow short men on r/short created a petition on Change.org and we need you all to sign it! This is a pivotal moment to let advertisers know that height shaming is no different than the fat shaming that they stay away from in advertising in the modern era. We need 100 signatures. At this point, there are only 24. Here is the link: Stop DirecTV's Offensive "Petite Randy Moss" ad. |

"Help! My child is taller than me"
http://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2015/aug/08/help-my-child-is-taller-than-me
I am not sure how I feel about this article. It almost makes a joke of heightism. "Alexis is three inches taller than me so far – she overtook me suddenly last year and I couldn’t be more delighted. It’s quite funny at times, trying to be in “serious mum mode” when you’re looking up. Other times, it’s useful. Alexis can open the security lock on the back door and I can’t – but she can also reach the sweetie jar in the kitchen and I can’t, which is not good, is it?”" |

Random thoughts with God and height
So I am not big into the bible or anything but God/Jesus has taught us that we too should look unto someone's heart not their physical appearance when looking at strength and such. I feel like this is one of the best lessons in that book because it shows us that the way we appear on the outside should not matter as much as it does in this world. |

How far does heightism go back?
Well I really can't say but I would imagine it has gotten worse then ever over the last 50 or so years. The jokes, the laughs, the sterotyping ect. |

How much truth is in this statement?
I am curious on all your thoughts here... "Fat girls don't like feeling unattractive. Short guys don't like feeling unattractive. No one likes to feel unattractive. But at the end of the day, the majority of guys aren't attracted to fat girls just as much as the majority of girls aren't attracted to short guys. It's not shallow. It's natural. People can't help it." |
